SWAMI VIVEKANANDA MEMORIAL










Swami Vivekananda Rock Memorial is a popular monument in Kanyakumari in the Tamil Nadu state. It was built in 1970 in honour of Swami Vivekananda, who attained enlightenment on the rock. It is a small island near the town Kanyakumari on the south most part of India at the junction of Bay of Bengal and the Arabian sea. It can be approached by taking a short boat ride from the bank. Many tourists travel to the place daily in order to pay their respects.







Besides the Vivekananda Memorial, stands a 40.6 meters tall stone statue of Thiruvalluvar, the famous poet and philosopher of Tamil culture. 
Swami Vivekananda was born on 12th January, 1863 in Kolkatta. His childhood name was Narendra Nath Dutta. He was the man of wisdom and a very simple human being. He got influenced by Ramakrishna who became his guru. 
He became a spiritual leader and social reformer. Narendranath became known as Vivekananda that is "the bliss of the discerning wisdom." 
Teachings of Swami Vivekananda motivated the youth and also the people of the whole world. He laid true foundations of India's unity as a nation. He taught how to live together with such diversities.

Swami Vivekananda travelled to Chicago, USA to spread massage of universal peace and tolerance; and to tell that no religion is superior or inferior in the world. He delivered speech at the First World's parliament of religious in Chicago on 11th September, 1893. 
A part of speech is----
"I am proud of belonging to a religion which has taught the world both tolerance and universal toleration, but we accept all religions as true. I am proud to belong to a nation which has sheltered the persecuted and the refugees of all religions and all nations of the earth."
Swami Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. Both have their headquarters in Belur Math, Howrah, West Bengal.
Swami Vivekananda attained Maha samadhi, which is consciously and intentionally leaving one's body, at an early age of 39 years on 4th July, 1902 in Howrah.

Swami Vivekananda will be known for his belief that morality is linked to control of the mind, seeing truth, purity and unselfishness. He wanted his disciples to be holy, unselfish and to have faith.
